As I reflect on 2024, I'm humbled by the opportunities I've had to contribute to the critical conversation around healthcare worker well-being and burnout prevention. This year has marked several significant milestones in my academic and professional journey.
I'm proud to announce the publication of my first first-author paper, "Addressing Burnout and Enhancing Well-Being Among Academic Physicians: A Call for Future Research and Organizational Support" in HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine. Additionally, I contributed to an important systematic review and meta-analysis focusing on burnout among practicing neurologists, further expanding our understanding of this crucial issue.
A significant highlight of the year was hosting our inaugural Physician Well-Being Symposium at the Warren Alpert Medical School in April. We brought together healthcare well-being leaders from across the state and our affiliate hospital systems, fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration. The enthusiastic engagement from all participants has set a strong foundation for our next symposium, scheduled for April 30, 2025.
September was particularly eventful, as I had the honor of hosting the annual Suicide in Healthcare and Science Conference at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. During the same month, I served on the planning committee for the Nature and Health Workshop, also held at Brown University, bringing together experts to explore the intersection of environmental and human health.
A deeply personal highlight was returning to my alma mater, Pine Forge Academy, for my 30-year high school reunion. I was deeply touched to be named Alumnus of the Year, and had the privilege of sharing my journey to becoming a Chief Well-being Officer. This opportunity allowed me to discuss both the successes and challenges along my path, emphasizing how the education, support, and spiritual foundation I received at PFA have been instrumental in my achievements.
Looking ahead to 2025, I'm excited to announce that I've been invited to speak at "A Health Workforce Well-being Day" event at Johns Hopkins on March 18-19, 2025. This event will bring together leading voices in healthcare well-being to drive meaningful change in our field. I encourage those interested in healthcare workforce well-being to consider attending this important gathering of change-makers.
As I look back on this year of growth and forward to new opportunities, I remain committed to advancing the conversation around healthcare worker well-being and creating positive change in our field.
